Hilarious Laws From Across The World

A friend of mine recently told me that it's not illegal to try to escape from German prison because...get this, it is basic human instinct to be free. Naturally I looked into this and other wacky laws and policies (Obamacare's too obvious so I left it out) that have been passed around the world to figure out which were true and which ones were urban legends. You wouldn't believe it, but the following laws are/were in effect in...

United States

In New York, the penalty for jumping off a building is: Death. Yes. I guess it's safe to say that noone is above the law in this scenario...

A thousand death sentences for this guy
If you think that's weird, In Pennsylvania, it’s against the law to tie a dollar bill on a string on the ground and pull it away when someone tries to pick it up. The guys who cooked this up had obviously spent too much time watching Looney Toons...

Europe

In France, it is against the law to sell an “E.T” doll. They have a law forbidding the sale of dolls that do not have human faces.

This time...we're gonna have to agree with the French. Creepy.

In Italy, anyone considered “obese” is forbidden from wearing polyester. And you thought 'fashion police' was just a metaphor. Kind of weird though, considering that Italy is responsible for the invention of pizza.

Protecting the city...one atrocity at a time

The Rest Of The World

In Victoria, Australia, you need a licensed electrician to change a light bulb. So... how many Australians does it take to change a light bulb? More than is necessary, is what we're saying. Still, imagine all the house calls electricians get to make.

In Samoa, it’s a crime to forget your own wife’s birthday. It's good to know that in some parts of the world lawmakers go the extra mile to put women at heart. But who calls it in? The bitter neglected wife? The guy next door who wants your wife for himself? Or the guilty husband trying to make ammends? Our guess is number two.

In Thailand, it is illegal to leave your house without your underwear on. So that's a no-go for commando. We will try not to imagine how it is exactly they find out if you're wearing any or not...
